Diving Deeper into IDL Graphics

Date: Wednesday, September 8, 2010

The keystone of the IDL 8.0 release is Graphics; a new graphics system that combines the easy scripting capabilities of Direct Graphics with the beautiful, OpenGL-based visualizations of Object Graphics. Graphics allows a user to programmatically create a data visualization, then modify it — resizing, rotating, panning, or zooming the graphic, changing fonts and colors, or adding legends and colorbars — either programmatically or interactively.

Whether you’re a long-time Direct Graphics user or completely new to IDL, please join us for this live web seminar to see how easy it is to use Graphics to produce scientific visualizations in IDL.

Topics will include:

  • An overview of the Graphics library of routines
  • Calling syntax: how to use Graphics properties and methods
  • Combining visualizations
  • Organizing multiple visualizations in a window
  • Headless plotting
  • Producing publication-quality graphics

This webinar is available to the public. No previous experience with IDL or Graphics is necessary. Preregistration is required.

Using ENVI with DigitalGlobe's WorldView-2 Data

Date: Tuesday, September 21, 2010

Please join us for this one hour webinar and learn about the powerful results you can achieve when combining DigitalGlobe’s WorldView-2 (WV2) data with ENVI. WV2 is an exciting new satellite, producing data with twice the spectral resolution of current commercially available satellite data, while preserving excellent spatial quality. ENVI has the widest range of spectral tools of any image processing software available, making it uniquely suited to process and analyze this new data set.

In this webinar, you will learn about the following topics:

  • What spatial and spectral tools ENVI has developed which specifically interact with WV2 data
  • Unique analyses that can be accomplished with WV2 data, e.g., more specific vegetation studies and coastal applications
  • How using WV2 data can improve your feature extraction and classification results in ENVI.

No previous experience with ENVI or DigitalGlobe’s WorldView-2 data is necessary for this webinar. Preregistration is required.

SARscape Interferometry Processing with ENVI

Date: Wednesday, October 27, 2010

Please join us for this informational web seminar to learn more about processing SAR (radar) data with the SARscape Interferometry module in ENVI. The SARscape modules are easy to use SAR-based processing modules that combine ENVI’s best tools for visualization and analysis with robust SAR processing support. You will learn how to use the SARscape Interferometry module to process interferometric pairs of SAR data to create DEMS and displacement maps.

The functionality of ENVI’s SARscape Interferometry module covered in this webinar includes:

The steps associated with Digital Elevation Model generation and Land Displacement Mapping:

  • Interferogram Generation and Flattening
  • Adaptive Filtering and Coherence Map generation
  • Phase Unwrapping
  • Orbital Refinement
  • Phase to Height or Displacement Conversion and Geocoding

No previous experience is required and this webinar is suitable for users of all levels. Pre-registration is required.

Adding Custom Functionality to ENVI

Date: Thursday, December 9, 2010

Please join us for this one hour webinar to learn how to add your custom functionality to the ENVI interface. ENVI is a full featured image processing and analysis application, but there are inevitably unique analyses that you might want to do that are not supported by any commercially available software package. ENVI, therefore, provides you with a very flexible and easy-to-use customization API, allowing you to create your own tools and add them directly to the ENVI interface.

In this webinar you will learn how to:

  • Add a custom processing function or routine
  • Add custom user interface elements
  • Customize existing display tools
  • Turn your custom ENVI functionality into an Arc Toolbox

No previous experience is required and this webinar is suitable for users of all levels. Pre-registration is required.

Image Analysis with ENVI: Performing Quantitative Analysis with Remotely Sensed Imagery

Date: Tuesday, January 25, 2011

Please join us for this one hour webinar to learn about the tools and processes ENVI provides to allow you to perform quantitative image analysis. Data from satellites or airborne sensors often come in a relative measure like DN, but to accomplish many quantitative scientific analysis tasks, the data need to be converted to a measurable standard like radiance or reflectance. Additionally, there are many ways the Earth’s atmosphere can affect imagery (like scattering and absorption) that influence the measured value of a pixel. Accounting for these effects and calibrating the pixel value to an absolute standard like reflectance can greatly increase the accuracy of your analysis and allow you to derive much more information from your imagery.

In this webinar the following topics will be covered:

  • Why calibration and atmospheric correction are important image processing tasks
  • Basic tools in ENVI to account for general atmospheric effects
  • Advanced tools in ENVI for robust atmospheric correction
  • The difference between raw data and calibrated/corrected results
  • Applications that rely on atmospherically corrected and calibrated data

No previous experience with ENVI or image analysis is required for this webinar.

Preregistration is required.
