     Recorded Web Seminars

We offer a number of different instructional opportunities, included in these step-by-step web presentations. Click on each link to start the video stream.

Learn data visualization and analysis with IDL and image processing and analysis with ENVI from your desktop with the following recorded web seminars. Check back periodically for new web seminars.

IDL Web Seminars

Introduction to IDL 7.1
A short 12 minute introduction to IDL 7.1, including demonstrations of a few primary features.

IDL 7.1 Feature Overview
This web seminar presents an overview of the new features in IDL 7.1, including several examples.

IDL Visualization Tour
This recorded web seminar provides an overview of the scientific visualization tools built into IDL, including examples of line plots, contour plots and three-dimensional volume visualizations.

IDL Workbench Web Seminars

Introduction to the IDL Workbench
This recorded demonstration highlights some of the new features found in the IDL Workbench including options such as autocomplete, hover help, and new concepts of IDL project management.

IDL Workbench Templates Tour 1
A short (<5 min) tutorial on how to use the code templates built into the IDL Workbench.

IDL Workbench Templates Tour 2
A short (<5 min) tutorial on how to modify one of the existing code templates built into the IDL Workbench.

IDL Workbench Projects
This short 10 min tutorial demonstrates how to create and use projects in the IDL Workbench.

IDL Solutions Web Seminars

IDL Solutions for Applications
in Spectral Microscopy
This recorded live web seminar illustrates the hardware and software solutions for applications in Spectral Microscopy.

Topics In Numerical Analysis
This recording provides an overview of the numerical analysis tools built into IDL. It includes discussion and examples of using built-in IDL routines to perform interpolation, curve fitting, signal processing and image processing. It also includes a brief review of the IDL Advanced Math and Stats module.

ENVI Web Seminars

ENVI Overview
This recorded web seminar explains the basic features and functionality that ENVI offers. Topics include how ENVI can help you read, prepare, explore, analyze and share your imagery.

ENVI Features and Functionality
This recorded web seminar covers the range of ENVI functionality of workflow-based tools and key functional areas, such as Change detection, Feature extraction Classification, Spectral analysis and Data calibration.

ENVI & ArcGIS Integration
This recorded demonstration shows how ENVI can be used in a typical GIS application. In this case, ENVI Feature Extraction is used with IKONOS imagery to identify the permeable and impermeable regions in a specific watershed. These results are used as a parameter in an ArcGIS stormwater runoff model and demonstrate how using automated feature extraction with ENVI can improve the accuracy of the model.

ENVI Add-on Module Web Seminars

ENVI Orthorectification Module
This recorded web seminar explains ENVI's process of accurately registering imagery to ground coordinates and geometrically correcting it to remove distortions that happen during image capture.

ENVI Solutions Web Seminars

Image Analysis for GIS
This recorded demonstration brings together multiple tools in ENVI to show the process of delineating changed shorelines as a result of the 2004 tsunami, automatically extracting those changes, and exporting them directly to a geodatabase.

ENVI Applications in Forestry
This recorded web seminar discusses how imagery can be used to assess forest health, identify and inventory valuable tree species, monitor forestry management practices, and locate invasive species.
