ENVI SPEAR Tools
New Tools for Image Analysts

ENVI 4.4 introduces SPEAR Tools – a robust suite of tools designed to help you quickly perform common image processing tasks.

These workflow-based tools greatly reduce the number of steps it takes to produce geospatial information products.

Guided Image Exploitation

SPEAR Tools provide a wizard-based method to automate common image processing tasks, such as pan-sharpening, performing change detection, producing terrain categorizations, and more.

This new set of tools includes:

  • Wizard with step-by-step instructions
  • Integrated help and informational dialogues to assist users
  • New processing routines for users of all experience levels

The Tools You Need

SPEAR Tools keep the image processing workflow in mind, providing automation for commonly performed tasks such as:

  • Pan-Sharpening - Fuse a panchromatic image with multispectral data to create a colorized high resolution dataset
  • Detecting Lines of Communication – Roads - Techniques to highlight roads to aid in manual digitizing
  • Detecting Lines of Communication – Rivers -Techniques to highlight open and obscured waterways
  • Finding Watercraft - Search images for the presence of moving or non-moving watercraft in open water environments
  • Measuring Relative Water Depth - Generate image products of relative water depths and export to graphics files suitable for use in reports and briefings
  • Conducting TERCAT (Terrain Categorization) - Create user defined or automatically generated classifications of terrains
  • Performing Change Detection - Highlight changed areas and compare images from two dates using band ratio techniques
  • Assessing Vegetation Delineation and Stress Detection - Quickly identify the presence of vegetation and visualize its level of vigor
  • Producing Spectral Analogues to Find Similar Materials - Perform mapping of a desired material throughout an entire image
