ENVI and SAR. When you need every piece of the puzzle

The use of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) has become increasingly popular in recent years, offering professionals in a wide array of industries a measurable, analytical approach to getting information about an object of interest. Now, the developers of ENVI offer the SARscape Family of Modules, a solution that takes your data from hard-to-interpret numbers to meaningful, contextual information.

Why Use SAR Data?

SAR is a non-subjective approach to analyzing an area of interest. Used alone or in conjunction with other remotely-sensed data, SAR data provide a unique layer of information – exposing new details to help you make the most informed decisions possible. SAR allows you to:

Core SARscape Module for ENVI

The Core SARscape Module for ENVI includes processing functionality for generating airborne and spaceborne SAR products. This module provides you with multiple capabilities, including:

• Filtering and Multilooking
• Coregisteration
• Despeckling
• Feature Extraction
• Geocoding and Radiometric Calibration
• Mosaicking
• Classifying

You also have the choice of two accessory modules:

• The Focusing Accessory Module
• The Gamma and Gaussian Filter Accessory Module

Interferometry (InSAR/DInSAR) SARscape Module for ENVI

The Interferometry (InSAR/DInSAR) SARscape Module for ENVI allows you to process Interferometric SAR (2-pass interferometry, InSAR), and Differential Interferometric SAR (n-pass inteferometry, DInSAR) data. This module provides capabilities for:

• Generating Digital Elevation Models (DEMs)
• Generating Land Displacements
• Measuring Coherence

There are also two accessory modules for the INSAR/DInSAR Module.

• The ScanSAR Interferometry Accessory Module
• The SAR Polarimetry/Polarimetric Interferometry (Pol/PollnSAR) Accessory Module

The SARscape Persistent Scatterers Module for ENVI enables you to measure very small ground displacements and to trace the deformation rate related to natural or man-made phenomena. This may include volcanic or seismic activity, landslides, subsidence, or building collapse. This module, which is recommended to be combined with the combined with the Core Module or Interferometry Module:

• Improves measurement accuracy from a few centimeters to a few millimeters
• Reduces limitations of interferometry such as atmospheric distortions or temporal de-correlation
• Allows you to analyze the phase history of single pixels, as opposed to conventional approaches that rely on entire geographic areas
